BlackBerry Passport LTE Review

BlackBerry Passport LTE Review – Power-Packed Machine That Will Not Let You Down

Once upon a time, BlackBerry was one of the most dominant forces in the arena of mobile phones. As a name that is synonymous with pleasures of productivity, most BlackBerry fans have fond memories of BlackBerry when they relish the iconic sound of physical keyboard clicks, and BBM as the influential messaging app in the mobile space. With the release of BlackBerry Passport LTE, Blackberry is poised to regain its dominance once more. The BlackBerry Passport LTE is a power-packed machine that reflects the ethos of BlackBerry's business-focused mindset.

Simple Design that Takes Care of Hard Tasks

At 4.5 inch, the BlackBerry Passport LTE flaunts its distinctive square shape which is about the same size as a regular passport. Boasting a premium design, the BlackBerry Passport LTE comes with a lovely metal frame, high-grade polycarbonate backing, ultra-high-resolution display screen, and clever keyboard. The main highlights of BlackBerry Passport LTE are its keyboard and display screen. Both are well-made that every BlackBerry fan will count it as among the best BlackBerry models.

Since it weighs 196g, the BlackBerry Passport LTE is a lightweight design but it still offers excellent and solid grip. With its 3.5mm wide, this BlackBerry model is actually wider than other phablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus. It is interesting to note that these phablets also offer larger display screens. Despite this, the amazing BlackBerry Passport LTE has been designed specifically to accommodate its physical keyboard. As a result, it adds more value and pleasantness when you are using its physical keyboard.

Supremacy of Physical Keyboard

With the exception of certain BlackBerry models, it has been said that BlackBerry is nothing without its signature physical keyboard. In this BlackBerry Passport model, it uses the three-row physical keyboard instead of the four-row physical keyboard that you find in models such as BlackBerry Q10 and BlackBerry Bold.

Impressively, this new physical keyboard presents the perfect blend of physical and virtual keyboard (the context-sensitive row sitting on the bottom edge of the display). Those who are hardcore BlackBerry physical keyboard purists may need some time to adjust to this keyboard. However, it does not take that long time to get acclimated. Once you get used to it, there will be a number of features and gestures which give this physical keyboard an extra edge.

Since the physical keyboard is touch-enabled, you can just swipe a finger upward underneath any of suggested words from predictive word and the entire world will fall into place. If you get the wrong word, all you need to do is just slide to the left on the keyboard and it will delete the last word you typed. If you crave for a tactile typing sensation, this BlackBerry Passport LTE can satisfy your craving.

Gorgeous Display Screen

Its 4.5-inch display screen (1440 x 1440 resolution) boasts 452 pixel density. This enables it to deliver sharper and more vivid display quality. While it has been the standard practice of normal smartphones to show about 40 characters per line, the BlackBerry Passport LTE can show about 60 characters on every line. Thanks to its width, reading tons of texts on its display screen has been an awesome experience. When it comes to quality of the texts, all of them look crisp and you can view them comfortably without having to zoom in or changing to wider landscape mode.

The BlackBerry Passport LTE showcases gorgeous image and video quality. Furthermore, this BlackBerry smartphone offers accurate color on its display. With such incredible level of depth and detail, it helps you to enjoy an immersive viewing experience. It also features IPS LCD technology which is capable of ensuring the visibility of its content even in bright outdoor lighting or direct sunlight.

Mighty Performance

When you take a look at its hardware and specs, you will realize quickly that BlackBerry Passport LTE houses impressive gear that pushes its performance to the next level. The combination of both quad-core processors and 3GB of RAM allows you to cruise through most operations. As you marvel at its speed and responsiveness, everything just works out fine without a hitch. In terms of internal storage, the BlackBerry Passport LTE offers 32GB of storage space. It can support up to 128GB microSD card.

The Helpful BlackBerry Assistant

Now, BlackBerry has its own version of Siri, Cortana, and Google Now in the form of the BlackBerry Assistant. With this BlackBerry's virtual assistant, you can do almost everything. Just press the dedicated voice button and start talking. From making calls and sending text messages to dictate notes and create calendar events, the BlackBerry Assistant will assist you. If you do not like the idea of talking to your smartphone, you can always choose to type it instead.

Verdict

The BlackBerry Passport LTE is a magnificent smartphone which is the perfect embodiment of power and productivity. Well-rounded and versatile, this remarkable BlackBerry smartphone is highly recommended for those that enjoy spacious typing experience.

Sony Xperia XA1 Dual SIM

Sony Xperia XA1 Dual G3116 is a Breath of Fresh Air that Changes Everything

In an oversaturated market of metal and glass smartphone models, Sony has brought its Sony Xperia XA! Dual G3116 as a real contender to defy the established rules. In short, it is a breath of fresh air that changes everything. Despite being a part of Sony's mid-range smartphone models, Sony Xperia XA1 Dual G3116 aims to deliver something more refreshing to its users. While Sony Xperia XZs represents Sony's flagship offering in its current top-of-the-line inventory, one should not underestimate how Sony Xperia XA1 Dual G3116 can hold its own.

Dare to Be Different

At first glance, Sony Xperia XA1 Dual G3116 seems out of place with its good old polycarbonate block. Although the current trend emphasizes bezel minimalism these days, Sony has been brave enough to push its own signature style. In fact, it manages to exude its own majesty due to its pleasantly elegant and distinct. Since its 5 inch is framed between big top and bottom bezel areas, this arrangement actually makes it taller than it looks.

Despite its all-plastic construction, it still does not change the fact that Sony Xperia XA1 Dual G3116 is solid and not as fragile as it looks. Yet, it is narrow enough for you to use it comfortably with just one hand. The metal home key of Sony is also strategically-placed so that you can feel and press without even having to look at it. As usual, there is a dedicated camera key for a quick snap. Like its name, Sony Xperia XA1 Dual G3116 supports microSIM that gives the flexibility and freedom of using two SIM cards. If Sony wants to create a more intuitive interaction with its Sony Xperia XA1, it has succeeded spectacularly.

Sharper Display Quality

To be honest, Sony Xperia XA1's 720 x 1280 resolution has nothing to wow about. However, its HD display screen is something worth talking about. It manages to excel in terms of color balance and outdoor visibility; these two qualities are somewhat lacking in most smartphones. At the same time, this HD screen works best at this diagonal because you can save a lot of power.

Exhilarating Performance with Powerful Octa-Core Processor

On paper, its octa-core MediaTek Helio P20 processor may cast some doubts about its performance. However, it will surprise you because it is clocked at 4x 2.3GHz and 4 x 1.6Ghz. You can compare its power with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. Since it made with a 16nm process, it also emphasizes the essentials of frugality. Sony Xperia XA1 comes with 3GB of RAM that should be more than enough to handle any given challenges without noticeable hiccups. Sony Xperia XA1 also brings something to make your experience an exhilarating one.

Thanks to its Qnovo Adaptive Charging feature, it will monitor battery health and adjust charging current accordingly. If you battery hits low, you can trust Stamina mode to disable certain functions to preserve battery power. While it houses the humble 2300mAh battery, it is designed to ensure a long-lasting performance. Fascinatingly, it learns your charging patterns and adapts to them. As a result, you can even enjoy up to to twice the battery lifespan.

Simple & Steady Interface

When it comes to its interface, Sony Xperia XA1 boasts Android 7.0 Nougat with Sony UX on top. This combination adds a lot of value because you can enjoy the common apps from Google with Sony's own unique twist. These twists include plenty of options for theme and extra personalization. Sony also incorporates its signature Sketch and Movie Creator apps that present incredible video and image editing abilities. In short, it is simple, steady, and fluid experience as you navigate around with Sony Xperia XA1.

Superior 23MP Exmor RS Camera Sensor

When you talk about Sony, you will be familiar with its good track record with its smartphone camera technology. The biggest selling point about Sony Xperia XA1 is its 23MP rear camera with predictive hybrid autofocus. Its Exmor RS camera sensor enables you to get brighter photos even in low-light condition. With its 24mm-wide angle rear lens, you can fit every subject you need in one photo. If you have smaller subject, you can get five times close with its highly versatile 5x Clear Image Zoom.

As for its 8MP front camera, it offers equally impressive photo quality as well. Its 23mm-wide angle lens allows your front camera to capture all the action you want. This means that you can always enjoy a great wefie experience with Sony Xperia XA1. Overall, you can expect its rear and front cameras to boast sharp and vivid photo qualities.

Verdict

As mentioned earlier, Sony Xperia XA1 Dual G3116 is a well-built mid-ranger model. Although it does not enjoy the benefits of higher-end features such as fingerprint sensor and water-resistant, its attractive price should sway you into making the best decision of your life. Geared to cater to needs of younger generation, Sony Xperia XA1 Dual G3116 brings impressive features at a modest price.

Connecting the Sony SBH52 bluetooth with Sony Xperia Z1

The Sony SBH2 bluetooth is a smart device by Sony. As more and more tablet 3G and 4G devices get sold in the market it becomes difficult to use their tablets as a hand held phone since its quite uncomfortable to hold it up to the ears. Sony thus created this Smart bluetooth handset (SBH2) to allow users to use their tablets and phablets together with the Sony SBH52 bluetooth wireless device.

At Expansys Hong Kong, we have unbox the device together with Sony Xperia Z1 to actually test the device in action in terms of comfort and usability.

After removing device from package simply turn it on and the bluetooth frequency display will be shown.

We placed the Sony SBH2 to touch the back of the Sony Xperia Z1 to connect.

To access Bluetooth pairing on the Sony Xperia Z1 simply switch on the SBH52 until you see the bluetooth symbol. And on the Sony Xperia Z1 settings clicked  bluetooth, to show the list of devices in the scan icon.

SBH52 is visibly displayed in the list of bluetooth then clicked to pair.

The process is fairly straight forward and quick to setup.

Using HTC One X together with HTC Media Link DG H100

HTC One X + Media Link

A few customers have been inquiring as to how they can get their Media Link working with the HTC One X. Here is a quick fix that should work:

http://www.htc.com/uk/help/htc-desire-hd/#download

The steps there are a little backwards, though, and won't work if you follow HTC's instructions exactly. Try using these instructions instead:

1. Download the HTC Media Link ROM Update for HTC Desire HD (1.11.0.0)
2. Hold the power button on the Media Link and then plug it into your PC using the included USB cable. After 2-3 seconds, it should start flashing orange and green.
3. Open the Media Link ROM Update executable file.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen until the Media Link has been updated to ROM version 1.11.0.0
5. Plug in Media Link to TV and use as normal.
